At Hymers Private Wealth, we believe in celebrating incredible achievements that inspire us all, and this week’s Feel Good Friday is no exception. Today, we honor a remarkable woman who has redefined what it means to chase your dreams at any age—Hymers’ client Elizabeth (Liz) Borrett.
Liz, at 85 years young, just became the oldest female marathon runner in Australian history. Participating in the Sydney Marathon, she crossed the finish line with a time of 5 hours and 52 minutes, a testament to her enduring spirit, resilience, and love for the sport. But this wasn’t just another run for Liz; it was a groundbreaking moment in marathon history that reminds all of us that the only limits we have are the ones we place on ourselves.
Liz’s passion for running began later in life, and in a short time she has accomplished what most of us can only dream of. Liz is driven by a simple yet powerful mantra: “It’s never about speed—it’s about finishing.” In her view, running keeps her body active, mind sharp, and spirit strong. The Sydney Marathon was not her first achievement; Liz has completed all 6 of the Abbot World Marathon Majors, and regularly wins her age group. Her race in Sydney this September placed her in the record books, and inspiring achievement for runners and non-runners alike.
“I never expected to break records,” Liz shared with the Australian media. “I just wanted to keep moving, to stay fit, and enjoy the camaraderie of my fellow runners. We’re all in this together, no matter our age.” Her dedication to staying active is a motivation for anyone wondering if they are “too old” to follow a passion. If Liz’s journey teaches us anything, it’s that life is a marathon, not a sprint. Her love for running isn’t just about crossing the finish line—it’s about inspiring others to keep going, no matter where they are in their own race.
Congratulations, Liz—you’ve set the pace for us all.
Wishing everyone a wonderful, active, and inspired Friday!
