This week’s MacroMemo produced by our Chief Economist Eric Lascelles, RBC Global Asset Management examines the potential impact of the coronavirus on global markets. Also on our radar: the U.S. primary battle, Brexit, central bank mandates and possible monetary policy actions.
While markets have begun to react to concerns regarding the coronavirus, our base-case scenario is that this outbreak is contained and doesn’t have a large-scale impact on the global economy. We are maintaining a watchful eye for an increase in the severity of this outbreak and will adjust portfolios either in favor of taking a more cautious approach, and/or by taking advantage of buying opportunities that may be presented in the case where volatility increases.
