I often speak about the value of appointing a Corporate Executor (and Corp. Power of Attorney), rather than a family member or friend, when drafting or updating your wills. As such, I have referred more than a few people to my colleague Karen Snowdon-Steacy, Senior Trust Advisor at Royal Trust. Karen has helped a number of clients understand the complexities of this role, and has demonstrated clearly why going this route is the obvious choice. Without fail, each client that has engaged RT for this purpose has expressed how relieved they are to have it all in place. And the bonus is that Royal Trust does not charge anything to get it set up!
Last year I too appointed RT as my Corporate Executor and Corporate Power of Attorney (for financial affairs). Karen worked with my lawyer seamlessly to make the process surprisingly simple and straightforward.
Earlier this month the CEO of Royal Trust, Leanne Kaufman, was interviewed discussing this very subject. See article HERE. When it comes right down to it, saddling our loved-ones with this heavy burden is the farthest thing from what any of us would want.
If you would like more information, I strongly encourage you to reach out to me and I will gladly talk to you about the process in more detail.
