According to RBC’s Small Business Poll (Sept 2020), nine out of 10 owners stated they’ll bounce back from the adverse effects of the pandemic. Despite the more general doom and gloom from the rest of the population, this entrepreneurial segment is optimistic. Some of the reasons they cite have to do with their tendency to be more creative, resilient and confident. As a matter of fact, 22% of those owners polled expect to prosper in the next six months.
The poll found that more than half of Canadians aged 18-34 have contemplated starting a new business because they see this current climate as an opportunity. Prior to the pandemic, an RBC Economics analysis found in this younger age category, a strong preference toward the areas of data analytics and cloud computing, which (as discussed in the podcast I sent out a few weeks ago) will be the cornerstone of our ever-increasing digital and “distributed” economy.
The latest RBC Disruptors podcast (listen HERE) explores how this new generation of business owners is already proving to be different. The “Gen Z” group are driven by purpose as much as profit. They’re global thinkers and as I stated above, optimistic.
I hope you enjoy the interview – I found it enlightening and uplifting.
