For Craig Thompson at Eastmure Thompson Wealth Advisory, football holds a special place in his heart. While studying at Queen’s University, Hamilton-born Thompson played on the varsity football team – an experience he describes as “among the most rewarding and formative of my life.”
It’s also an experience he felt compelled to celebrate and amplify with other university level players. Having developed a connection with the Guelph Gryphon coaching staff, including a former teammate and coach, he saw a way to make this happen – through the Eastmure Thompson Wealth Advisory Football Scholarship. “Both of these individuals had a profound and positive impact on my life, and I am confident that their current coaching staff will have a similar influence on any player who is awarded this scholarship,” he says.
Established in 2023, the Eastmure Thompson Wealth Advisory Football Scholarship is awarded each year to a student-athlete(s) on the Guelph University Varsity Football Team with extraordinary athletic, academic, and leadership qualities, with preference given to a player from the region of Hamilton, Ontario.
This year’s recipients are Offensive Lineman Daniel Hocevar and Linebacker Denver Beazley.
Daniel Hocevar is currently in his fifth year at the University of Guelph, where he studies Sport & Event Management. After playing 4 years as a member of the Guelph Gryphons football team, he is pursuing a professional career in the CFL this upcoming year. “I am beyond grateful for all the support and opportunities I have been given throughout the years and look forward to an exciting year," he says.
Denver Beazley is in his third year of the Sport & Event Management program. Having just finished his third season with the Gryphons, he is excited to continue his journey on the field and in the classroom. Says Denver: “I'm very thankful for the support from the school, my coaches, and Eastmure Thompson Wealth Advisory, which allows me to reach my full potential."
Craig Thompson feels honoured to be in a position to help young athletes have a similar experience while pursuing their athletic and academic goals. "From my conversation with Daniel and Denver, what truly stood out was their unwavering character and remarkable work ethic – a testament to who they are, both on and off the field. It’s inspiring to see individuals who bring such integrity and dedication to everything they do."
