We’ve seen that markets aren’t just about numbers, they reflect policy, sentiment, and global currents. What resonates with us is that strength, adaptability, and forward-looking thinking can create opportunity even when the headlines feel chaotic.

Women & Wealth: The markets pulse and what this means for you

Back in the summer, investor sentiment was cautiously optimistic, many hoped that interest rate cuts would come and that trade tensions might ease. While the road has been bumpy, Canada’s equity market has hit record highs, helped in part by government stimulus and fast-track infrastructure announcements. That tells us that even in uncertain times, opportunities exist. We can’t talk about Canadian markets without acknowledging the influence of US policies. Tariff changes, trade negotiations and the Federal Reserve’s interest rate moves continue to have spillover effects. In many ways, our markets are in a dance with US policy and when American monetary or trade policy shifts, we feel the ripple almost immediately. Canada’s government has leaned into spending on infrastructure, defense and mining sectors. These areas are now under more focus, and they may offer compelling long-term growth potential, especially for those who believe in domestic capacity building. At the same time, global interest in clean energy and energy transition is strong with major funds being raised to support renewable initiatives.

What This Means for You & Your Portfolio:

Diversification is essential. Given the sensitivity of our markets to external shocks, having exposure across sectors gives you more flexibility.

Look for structural themes. Infrastructure, clean tech, and defense are more than buzzwords now and they are receiving real support.

Don’t underestimate bonds and defensive assets. If volatility returns (and it well may), “safe” assets or high-quality bonds can help cushion the downside.

Be patient. Some of the opportunities may take time to mature and but positioning early can pay off.

We’ve seen that markets aren’t just about numbers, they reflect policy, sentiment, and global currents. What resonates with us is that strength, adaptability, and forward-looking thinking can create opportunity even when the headlines feel chaotic.
