The portfolio process
Our job as your investment advisor and financial planner is to understand your unique goals for your family, business, or organization and work within the constraints specific to your circumstances to build an investment strategy, enabling you to attain your goals without taking on unnecessary risk. Together, with guidance from RBC’s global team of research analysts, portfolio strategists, and economists, we’ll create a custom portfolio that maximizes after-tax returns while also maintaining stability of capital through diversification of individual equities, bonds, cash, private equity and alternatives, where appropriate.
In general,
- We believe in buying high quality, established businesses that have demonstrated the capacity for steady long term growth, complemented by stable, expanding companies leading innovative opportunities in their industries.
- When the data supports owning an index strategy, we incorporate industry-leading ETFs to access the most efficient returns in the category, or as a strategic allocation with consideration to foreign currency, tax, and income.
- Finally, we leverage some of the top institutional investment managers in the world to access research and expertise beyond our immediate scope.
- Like all businesses, we recognize that the investment industry is constantly evolving. We will consider alternative investment strategies, private equity, and specialty asset classes where there is a demonstrated track record and significant due diligence, combined with a sensible risk to return opportunity.
We actively monitor all portfolio positions, and when appropriate, recommend changes to reflect current market condition. We will also periodically review the portfolio as a whole to ensure it is meeting its stated objectives.
We maintain continuous oversight of the global macro conditions in the economy and stock markets. We leverage insights from the RBC Investment Strategy Committee, comprised of RBC’s senior economists, portfolio strategists, and analysts, along with resources from our global partners in institutional investment management to take advantage of opportunities to enhance after-tax returns or reduce risk.
Your investment portfolio should be designed to meet your needs, both simple and complex, now and in the future, with a disciplined process to keep you on track to achieving and exceeding your goals.
