Running Reflections: Patience and Discipline

Patience.

Discipline.

I heard a quote recently that stopped me in my tracks:

“The problem with patience and discipline is that acquiring each of them requires both of them.”

That one’s still sitting with me.

We say patience is a virtue - but let’s be honest, it’s one we rarely reward anymore.

In our hurry-up culture, we don’t have time.

Or more accurately, we don’t make time.

And if we’re being even more honest…

sometimes we’re just not disciplined enough to wait.

I know this.

You know this.

Whether it’s business growth, physical health, personal goals, or long-term planning - most good things take time.

And they take the commitment to stick with the process when the results aren’t instant.

Just a little reminder today:

Quick isn’t always better.

Consistent beats intense.

And patience is a skill we can build - one disciplined step at a time.

Today marks 100 Volumes of ‘Running Reflections!’

This volume marks the 100th installment of Running Reflections! What started as a few musings to document my thoughts while running, both for myself and for you, has grown into a wonderful journey. Publishing every alternate week for 100 volumes has allowed me to connect with an immense number of people who share a love for running, music, and these varied reflections.

I am humbled by my own patience and discipline. Both in my running practice and in my writing practice to document the journey.

Thank you so much for staying with me over the years.

Onwards!

TTFN (Ta-ta for now),

Colleen
