Running Reflections: What’s your love language?

Are you familiar with the five love languages? (Gary Chapman)

This quintessential concept was first introduced to me years ago by a local connection - Ana Ideas. (Hi Ana, it’s been a minute!)

After reading the book, I didn’t even need the quiz - I knew right away. Quality time is my love language.

And there’s no better quality time than being with my husband and my boys. As an almost empty nester, it feels extra special when the four of us come together - when my youngest is home from university and my oldest chooses to invest time with us.

Not long ago, we shared dinner at a local spot - Supply & Demand - followed by a friendly game of cricket on our basement dartboard.

There’s truly nothing that replaces the deep warmth I feel when I get to hang with my boys. And I feel especially privileged when they choose to accept our invitations.

It’s also why I make my weekly visits with my dad a priority.

These were the thoughts running through my mind during my Saturday afternoon 5K. I can only hope that as my boys continue to grow into confident adults, they will always make time for me - somewhere amidst their personal and career endeavours.

What’s your love language?

And how do you make time for the people who matter most?
