In October of 2023,
I ran my last half marathon,
a celebration of turning 50.
This week,
On a regular old Sunday Run Day, I clocked a 2.5 km run, 2 km walk, and a 2.5 km run - a total of 7 km.
No half marathons here!
Keep moving, right?
Why do I run?
There are a few reasons.
My dad. Parkinson’s has taken a toll on him. Yesterday, we went for a walk outside, then played pool. He rested often, but he did it. What takes little effort for us is like a marathon for him. Yet, with patience and respect, we keep moving—together.
My mother-in-law, Faye. She lived with PLS, a form of ALS. I watched her physically deteriorate, and it’s driven me to stay strong and healthy.
Menopause. It’s a whole other layer to the challenge.
Vanity. I hate to admit it, but there’s a deep-rooted desire to be “skinny.” Logically, I know it makes zero sense, but it’s there.
There you have it.
Why I lace up and hit the road.
Today, the fresh, chilly air feels beautiful.
