In honor of a bright new year, I wanted to share a roundup of some of the best fun, frank advice my fabulous guests have shared with me over 4.5 years of podcasting.

For context, on my podcast, “I’m a Millionaire! So, now what?”, at the end of each interview, I ask my guests to share with me one piece of “Fun, frank advice” for the Self-Made Nation. And they always deliver with wisdom and wit.

For the next three weeks, as a way of providing you with inspiration and motivation for 2023, as we navigate a recession, and to take a moment and pay homage to the guests who have come on my show, I'm going to share with you some advice to help you find joy and happiness in your business. I hope you will find something life-changing in here that resonates with you!

Greetings of the season! Enjoy the holidays from whatever standpoint you celebrate it.

Fun, frank advice for the Self-Made Nation

“I think you should go out there and sell. I think you should go out there and try. And I also think you should know when to stop and when to start.”

“Don't be scared to do the opposite of what everybody else is doing. When it comes to entrepreneurship, you have to be a little bit crazy.”

“Don't ever lose sight of what your mission is, what you are trying to accomplish. Understand you're going to have to weather the highs and the lows, and they will be extreme.”

“Everyone thinks that when you start a business that suddenly, boom, it's just gonna happen. Instead, stay focused and be willing to work hard.”

“Bookend your day with appreciation every single day. First thought in the morning when you wake up, say thank you for waking up. And then say to yourself, ‘This is going to be a great day’. Brain scientists tell us it focuses our subconscious mind to go looking for reasons why. And do the same thing at night.”

“Never let your business be your baby. Let it grow up. Let your business become a petulant teenager, then let your business become an adult child that moves back into their parents basement. And then let it be an adult. And it will go through those different phases depending on the support you have around you, the structures, the institutions, and changes in legislation.”

“The most important thing I learned in the last few years is the importance of having a single mission and a single vision, and to unite everybody behind it.”
