Locally and globally we are watching with concern as this new virus – the coronavirus or covid-19 spreads.

As I write this message to you, we have just experienced one of the biggest drops in the stock market history.

It is unsettling from the perspective of our health and welfare. The WHO (World Health Organization) is calling it a pandemic.

It is unsettling from the perspective of economic growth and the prospect for the markets.

I know it is tough to be an investor RIGHT NOW! I know this is scary.

I have spoken and exchanged emails with many of you. We remain committed to supporting you in this time of uncertainty.

As of 6:40 am (today – March 13, 2020), my family and I were scheduled on a flight to Florida for a planned holiday visiting my mother in law. We have instead cancelled our trip for the safety our friends and family who are more vulnerable than us. I have yet to decide how I will spend my week.

Rest assured that I will be accessible, even if I choose a staycation.

I also wanted to share with you that a firm-wide continuity plan has been activated, at RBC, to ensure you will be taken care of during this tumultuous time.

I trust in the ingenuity of humankind to find a solution to the pandemic. And in turn, I trust that the stock market will reflect positive future growth – eventually.

I encourage you to remain calm and be patient. Make adjustments with mindful purpose and not as a knee jerk reaction. If something has changed for you, reach out.

Thank you for your business. We appreciate your trust most in uncertain times.

Take care,

Colleen
