Based in British Columbia, Alan is a Investment Counsellor with RBC Wealth Management – PH&N Investment Counsel. With over 17 years of industry experience, Alan enjoys understanding his clients personally and building long-term relationships.
Alan spent the initial three years of his investment management career being mentored as an Associate Portfolio Manager in the Private Client Department of Phillips, Hager and North Investment Management Ltd. After successfully completing the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) program in 2001, Alan began building his clientele.
Today, Alan’s clientele ranges from individuals to multi-generational families, corporate executives to family enterprises. This varied client base requires a diverse knowledge of planning strategies and portfolio structures. Alan enjoys getting to know each client and discovering the full scope of their financial situation. Drawing on his education and counselling experience Alan creates a family office approach to his client’s wealth management experience.
Alan is a past President of CFA Vancouver and an active member with the Estate Planning Council of Vancouver. Alan has acted as a mentor for both the SFU Global Asset and Wealth Management Program and the BCIT Financial Planning Program. Over the years Alan has sat on not-for-profit boards including the Port Moody Foundation and the North Shore Community Foundation. Alan has also been involved raising funds for the Alzheimer’s Society, BC Children’s Hospital, and the BC Cancer Foundation.
Having an active presence in the financial community allows Alan insight into emerging financial trends as well as thought leadership amongst industry groups and peers. His involvement with these groups increases the breadth of well-rounded expertise he brings to his clients.
Alan enjoys giving back to his sporting roots, acting as past Chair of the Board of Trustees for the BC Sports Hall of Fame, and coaching his daughters’ soccer teams. Alan lives in North Vancouver with his wife and two daughters.
