How are women different when it comes to investing and managing their financial affairs?
I have worked with many women going through changes in life: marriage, divorce, retirement, or death of a spouse. All of these are significant life events that have both emotional and financial consequences attached to them. I have found that women need a sounding board to be able to process the changes and have information presented in a way that they can feel empowered to make an educated decision at perhaps a difficult time in their lives.
Women are statistically likely to outlive men by several years, so we need our retirement savings to last longer than men's. The average woman can expect to live to age 87 six more years than the average male. That longer life span means you need to manage your investments to ensure that you don't run out of money, that your money lasts at least as long as you do.
A little education can go a long way when it comes to financial planning and investing for women.
