Joel specializes in insurance and estate planning. Joel brings over 18 years of insurance industry expertise to RBC. His expertise includes personal and corporate tax, estate planning and estate administration, as well as taxation of charities and charitable donations.
A graduate of Brandeis University, Massachusetts, he received his Bachelor of Laws from the University of Toronto, and was called to the Ontario Bar in 1992. Joel received his Masters in Tax Law from Osgoode Hall Law School in 2001. He has spoken at several seminars and conferences on life insurance, tax and estate planning issues for the Law Society of Upper Canada, the Ontario Bar Association, the Canadian Institute for Chartered Accountants, the Canadian Tax Foundation and the Canadian Association of Family Enterprises. He is past President of the Estate Planning Council of Toronto. Joel has published articles in the Canadian Tax Journal and the Canadian Business Law Journal. He is the founding co-editor of Canadian Taxation of Life Insurance and a contributing editor to Federated Press’ Insurance Planning newsletter.
Robyn Solnik, LL.B., TEP
Vice President & Business Owner Specialist
As a Business Owner Specialist, Robyn, works together with Ronnie and Mel to identify strategies and solutions that are customized to meet the client’s personal and business planning objectives. Tax, business risk, succession, and retirement strategies that are particular to the business owner/manager, will be identified and would then be discussed with the client’s lawyer and accountant.
Prior to joining RBC, Robyn acquired her expertise in estates, trusts and succession planning in both private practice and with a major trust company, practicing law in Toronto for 8 years with an emphasis on trusts, estates, succession, planning for incapacity and charities law, and as a will and estate consultant for a well-known Canadian trust company. She has completed her in-depth tax courses, levels 1 and 2, as well as the Owner-Manager Course, with the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants, and co-authored "Drafting Wills in Ontario: A Lawyer’s Practical Guide". She is an active member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) and the Law Society of Upper Canada.
