If I followed all of the industry rules, I wouldn't be here today. When I started, people told me you can't take this approach. You can't grow your business the way you are. Follow, standardized, don't disrupt. I chose to lead. Break the mold. Disrupt where appropriate. It's all about pushing yourself to do more.
Every year that went by, I said we can do more. I can try more. It's what every innovator does. Everyone on our team knows why we exist. They believe our approach is why we are where we are. Nothing is too small. Nothing is too insignificant. All the details matter. It's in those small details sometimes.
The way investing has been perceived has changed since I started. It's become more than just buying stocks. It's about the experience of investing, the story of growth, which inevitably ties into the story of how our clients experience life and how they grow as an individual, as a family, as a business person.
We talk about portfolio management being about something. We have a big why behind the business. It's not just something which feels good and looks good on paper or performs well. It's an experience. It's a transformational experience that makes people's lives better when they really get into it.
That's an incredible thing to be trying to push, trying to build. That's an amazing why to have. We've got the best why in the world, so there's so much more we can do with that.
