Family...a link to the past & a bridge to our future

We acknowledge Bob Rea as G1 (Generation 1) of our generational family wealth practice, starting in the industry in 1983 with Pemberton Houston Willoughby which became part of RBC Dominion Securities in 1989 and retiring in 2013.

Bob bore witness to rapid evolution and change in the financial services landscape and along the way felt there had to be a better way to serve clients as a fiduciary. He felt a discretionary, fee-based service would allow clients to receive advice without wondering about other motivations; the kind of advice that went beyond rote investments and into building relationships. These long-term relationship values were well instilled in Bob from his family and his industry mentors.  Bob's advice about what not to do was valued by clients as much if not more than what to do. Clients also valued the rigorous monitoring and reporting the internal Compliance team did on their behalf. The motivation behind this was Bob wanting never to let a client down let alone lose them as a client - to have them for their entire life. Bob delivered to that standard in that his first client was with him when she passed decades later. Trust was at the foundation for Bob - being honest and upfront.

Bob and Randy Semenchuck shared the same vision and values some years later when they partnered up in 1998 as one of the first discretionary fee-based practices in Canada in order to better service and protect clients and their families. Randy's background, training and relaxed presence brought further ideas and value to clients as the industry evolution towards holistic wealth management hurtled along. Randy, like Bob, was always seeking to do more and learn more for the betterment of the practice and client experience.

While Bob retired from the practice, the ongoing belief within Randy to continue to grow and evolve ultimately resulted in convergence of Randy and Dave Barnard's parallel practices into large family enterprise focussed practice.  We have G2 and G3 of our generational practice in place and are thinking a couple generations beyond that as part and parcel of a generational family practice, service generational families.

Princess Diana said, "Family is the most important thing in the world".  We work hard to operate and act like a family, and that it is not always easy - we know there are always family issues.  How do we know?  'Cause we're a family.  Your family is important to us and we desire to work with your family for generations to come.

Supported at all times by the breadth and depth of a global RBC family, we couldn't be more happy to welcome you home to be a rich part of our family history.
