As portfolio manager and family enterprise advisor, Derek empowers his clients to create resilient, intergenerational wealth. With a deep understanding of the interconnected relationship between family and business, he works closely with clients to develop governance structures and to determine shared values for multigenerational planning. Like his clients, Derek remains committed to enhancing his knowledge through education. He obtained his Bachelor of Business Administration, with a focus on international business and economics, from Bishop’s University and has since become a Certified Investment Manager (CIM), Family Enterprise Advisor (FEA), and a Certified Exit Planning Advisor (CEPA).
Derek understands that wealth involves responsibility, discipline, and intention. That’s why he encourages his clients – respected business leaders, families, corporations, and institutions – to reflect on their purpose and desired path. “Similar to financial planning and wealth planning, we need to strategize and prioritize the exciting things we want to accomplish – and, most importantly, the people we want to enjoy those things with,” he says. His distinct approach to wealth management, developed through years of experience, focuses on three central, finite resources: time, energy, and capital, all of which make up “true wealth.”
Derek is passionate about giving back to the community and proudly dedicates his time to several non-profit organizations in the Guelph area. His growing young family also keeps him busy; he loves spending time with them by the water. Derek is also an avid writer, and is often inspired by music or quotes from authors he admires, which he shares in his morning musings.
