With nearly 30 years of financial services experience, Jason and his team have safely guided clients through some of the most challenging market conditions in recent memory – from the 2001 dot-com bubble and the 2009 Great Recession to the 2020 stock market crash. It’s a level experience that can’t be faked or replicated, and one that reinforces Jason’s dedication to hard work and a discipline that’s nothing less than iron-clad.
Senior Portfolio Manager & Investment Advisor
Jason is unstoppable in his quest to set and reach our clients’ wealth management goals, and he leverages over 30 years of experience at RBC as an advisor to safely guide them through the unpredictability of the markets. This level of intensity can take some people by surprise – until they learn that Jason has completed the gruelling Ironman competition not once, but six times. A four-kilometre swim. A 180-kilometre bicycle ride. A 42-kilometre marathon. That’s one Ironman. Do it six times, and you have a level of discipline that stays with you for life. But this intensity comes with a soft side, including a reputation as someone who listens to clients – no surprise – very intensely. Only in this way can Jason deliver on his core purpose: to make your money work as hard for you as you did for it. In his words, “Financial security provides so much comfort – emotional and otherwise – for my clients. People work so hard for their money. It’s a shame if it isn’t serving them properly in return.”
Jason’s straightforward approach, strong work ethic, and three decades of experience as a portfolio manager have helped him to develop the most disciplined investment strategy in the industry. Consequently, he is relentless in educating his clients about the need to stay committed to the plan when their emotions tell them to deviate from it. He knows he can’t control the market – so his mission is to control everything else. As Jason says, “History clearly shows that the primary cause of failure isn’t picking stocks per se but buying and selling them at the wrong time.”
Jason earned a Bachelor of Commerce degree in Finance from McGill University and played varsity football for all five years. Shortly after graduating, he joined RBC Dominion Securities as an eager and determined rookie advisor, and over the course of his career has continued to deepen his knowledge and stay on top of evolving industry trends. Jason has also earned the highly intensive Family Enterprise Advisor (FEA) designation, the global benchmark in advising and assisting clients in navigating the complexities of their family business. Jason’s desire to deliver quality of the highest order extends beyond the office. He loves to grow every day as a husband, father of three young kids, advisor, and golfer as a member of Lambton Golf and Country Club.
