Born and raised in St. John's, Newfoundland, David graduated with honours from Memorial University's Bachelor of Commerce Co-operative program. While at Memorial, he received various academic scholarships and awards.
Upon graduation, David accepted a position with Ernst & Young Chartered Accountants where he completed his Chartered Accountant designation. Working with this firm, he gained valuable taxation and related financial experience.
Since joining RBC Dominion Securities in 1998 as Investment Advisor, David has earned his Portfolio Managers license which allows him to manage client portfolios on a discretionary basis. In addition, he has become an accredited Financial Planner by completing his Financial Management Advisor ("FMA") and Certified Financial Planner ("CFP) designations. This allows David to work with his clients in developing a Financial Plan to help guide them through their financial lives. In 2006, he was conferred the Fellow of the Canadian Securities Institute ("FCSI), one of the most respected accreditations in the Canadian financial services industry.
David has served as Chair of the Newfoundland and Labrador District Council for the Investment Industry Regulatory Organization of Canada ("IIROC, formerly Investment Dealers Associations "IDA). In that role, David represented the interests of local members of the investment industry on the national level. In addition, he has served on numerous Boards for various "not for profit" organizations and charities.

David is an avid runner and a member of the Athletics NorthEAST Running Club in St. Johns. He also enjoys cycling and skiing. He is married to Jill and they have two children, Max and Kate.
