One of my favourite questions to ask a new client is, “what was money like growing up?”. It offers a glimpse in to how we see money today, as our earliest memories tend to stay with us. What was money like for me growing up? It wasn’t great. But I didn’t grow up wanting more money; I just wanted to feel safe. For me, money means safety. For some its time, its love, its freedom. Money isn't numbers, its emotion.
I grew up in Stratford, Ontario. After high school, I earned a baseball scholarship in the United States that took me away, but it eventually led me back to my hometown, working shifts in a factory. It was there, saving and investing my modest excess funds, that I first dipped into the world of investing. At the start, my interest was purely transactional—chasing returns without much thought to the bigger picture. This lead me back to school for Finance, which connected me to an internship with a Big Bank, and I was off and running.
Early in my career, I worked in acquisition sales, focused on deals and numbers rather than people. That shifted in 2012 at the Annual CFP Conference in Toronto, where keynote speaker Mitch Anthony introduced the idea that “the happiest retirees have enough purpose to get out of bed in the morning and enough money to go to bed at night”.
On the train ride home, I committed to a different path—one where money serves life, not the other way around.
I entered this business, and specifically became an Investment Counsellor, to help high-net-worth individuals and families avoid the pitfalls I witnessed growing up, by aligning their wealth with what truly matters to them: creating safety, pursuing passions, and building meaningful legacies.
Today, as a Senior Investment Counsellor with RBC PH&N Investment Counsel, I provide discretionary investment management services to a select group of high-net-worth clients across Southwestern Ontario.
This allows me to develop a deep understanding of their unique needs and goals, ensuring portfolio decisions are driven by comprehensive financial planning and purpose. I collaborate with our in-house team of experts to deliver a full range of wealth management services and work alongside clients’ existing advisors, such as accountants and lawyers, to address every detail in support of their long-term plans.
I hold the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and Certified Financial Planner (CFP) designations and am a member of the CFA Institute and the Toronto Society of Financial Analysts.
Outside the office, I’m married to the love of my life, Tiffany. I am the very proud dad to daughter Paige (17) and sons Dane (8) and Max (3). When I am not chasing around tiny humans, I make time daily for reading and exercise, including jiu jitsu, to stay grounded, and humble.
