Senior Portfolio Manager & Investment Advisor
Brian’s interest in the financial industry began in high school and continued through college, where he took advanced classes in accounting and finance. Shortly after he completed a diploma in business administration, a deep recession occurred, causing a course change for Brian: A long-time active sailor, fisherman, and scuba diver, he found himself working in search-and-rescue with the Canadian Coast Guard. What followed is an 18-year marine career for Brian, serving as a professional mariner and, later, as a senior advisor at Transport Canada. But, feeling the pull of his passion for business and finance, Brian completed a Bachelor of Commerce degree at Royal Roads University and joined RBC Dominion Securities in 1999.
Today, Brian’s work as a senior portfolio manager and investment advisor parallels his time in the marine field: helping clients develop goals and plans, and assisting them in navigating from where they currently are to where they want to go in a reliable and efficient manner. Brian’s role in helping clients stay on track takes many forms. It means helping clients keep emotions out of their financial decisions, investing their hard-earned money in secure, wealth-creating businesses, and tracking progress toward their goals, making ongoing adjustments as the economy and markets change. Ultimately, it’s about helping clients achieve the peace of mind that comes with creating financial security and a lasting legacy for their families.
Brian and his wife, Marie, consider themselves fortunate to live in the Comox Valley near their three adult children and their four young grandkids – the joys of their lives. Outside of work, Brian enjoys staying active year-round through fishing, hunting, and flying small aircraft. He is also passionate about giving back to the community. Brian is a founding board member and president of the Pacific Region International Summer Music Academy (PRISMA). He also sponsors the performing arts in the Comox Valley and Powell River, as well as the Comox Valley Youth Music Centre (CMYC), Strathcona Symphony Orchestra (SSO), John Howard KidStart Program, and You Are Not Alone (YANA).
Portfolio Manager & Wealth Advisor, Financial Planner
Sean has been studying and participating in financial markets for the past 15 years and has spent the last seven years serving high-net-worth investors and their families. Prior to moving to RBC Dominion Securities in 2017, Sean worked with a large wealth management team at another bank-owned brokerage firm, where he specialized in serving small business and high-net-worth clients. Sean graduated from the University of Victoria with a Bachelor of Science degree in a combined major of Financial Mathematics and Economics.
Today, Sean focuses on working with clients to create long-term, personalized financial plans in addition to overseeing the portfolio design and composition for our team. His specialty is tax-efficient income-generating stock and bond portfolios. He has also achieved the Certified Financial Planner (CFP), Chartered Investment Manager (CIM), Personal Financial Planner (PFP), and Fellow of the Canadian Securities Institute (FCSI) designations. These designations build the skills required to serve more sophisticated financial clients, and he has learned how to implement advanced investment and financial planning strategies and evaluate portfolio performance. This level of knowledge means that Sean is an investment expert, capable of advanced financial planning, service, and advice.
Sean is an islander, born on Vancouver Island and raised in Parksville, and now resides in Courtenay with his wife, Taleah, and their two daughters. Outside of spending time with his family, he enjoys road cycling for charity, hiking in Strathcona Provincial Park, fishing on the west coast, and kayaking around the gulf islands. Sean is also a black-belt practitioner of a Japanese sword martial art called Iaido, an ancient Samurai training art based on discipline and self-awareness. When Sean is not working or training, he donates his time to You Are Not Alone (YANA), Rotary, Toastmasters, Junior Achievement, and the Royal Canadian Legion.
