E-For a Tree Campaign
In Celebration of Earth day we announced our E-for-a-Tree campaign in partnership with Tree Canada. Between now and August 30, 2020, we will plant a tree in Ottawa for every household that switches to electronic documents. Our team and our clients are committed to making our city a greener place!
The Ottawa Food Bank
We are thrilled to contribute to the Ottawa Food Bank to fight hunger in the city of Ottawa. The Covid-19 crisis has had devastating effects on charities and the people they support including this local and important organization, so we are glad we can do our part.
The Royal Ottawa
To celebrate International Women’s Day 2020, we partnered with The Royal and their Women’s Mental Health Program by hosting a branch information session and breakfast with Dr. Susan Farrell, VP community mental health and patient care services at the Royal Ottawa Hospital. We were thrilled to present them with a donation to this important cause from the RBC Foundation for $5000.
e-Switch and the Ottawa Food Bank
RBC is trying to reduce their carbon footprint by limiting the amount of paper being used through client correspondence. A nationwide campaign was created to have investment accounts switch their monthly summaries to electronic statements, rather than paper. This e-Switch initiative also includes confirmations and prospectuses relating to client account information.
As of December of 2012, the Ottawa Preston branch was ranked 1st regionally in this e-Switch campaign. The Associates at the branch decided to donate the $1500 awarded for first place to the Ottawa Food Bank. Presently the RBC Dominion Securities Ottawa Preston branch is placed 5th nationally in this e-Switch campaign. With an e-Switch adoption rate of 25.13%, Ottawa Preston is doing its part to help reduce their impact on the environment.

Grape Stomp
RBC Dominion Securities is proud to be a sponsor of the 2011 Sakto’s Grape Stomp This event is an exciting 3-step team relay race designed in partnership with the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation and the Preston Street BIA to raise funds for cancer research within our community. Bon Appetit
Bon Appetit Ottawa provides a recipe for both hunger and poverty relief in the National Capital Region. Driven by the hospitality industry to support the operational needs of local charities BAO has a particular focus on children and the elderly.
With RBC Dominion Securities as the main sponsor of the event, Bon Appetit Ottawa is the best cocktail party of the year.
This food and wine show features over 90 restaurants and caterers and dozens of wineries and breweries. Over 2000 people enjoy the delicious creations of the region's top chefs and samplings of renowned wineries served up in the beautiful and historic setting of the Aberdeen Pavillion.
Partners Investing in Parkinson Research (PIPR)
Parkinson’s disease affects more than 100,000 Canadians, including over 8,000 in the Ottawa area alone. And that number is expected to double by the year 2050. More research is needed to better understand and treat this devastating disease.
To support the groundbreaking research now underway at the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute, a group of investment advisors from the Ottawa financial community have come to together to form Partners Investing in Parkinson Research (PIPR).
Co-chaired by Richard Shantz and Andrew Frank of RBC Dominion Securities, PIPR is seeking support from friends, colleagues and the entire community to raise funds to help OHRI scientists find better treatments and ultimately improve the quality of life of patients with Parkinson’s.
PIPR has set a goal of raising $500,000 over the next five years. All funds raised by this dedicated group will go directly to the Parkinson Research Consortium at the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute. Led by Dr. David Grimes, the Consortium is currently working on a number of innovative treatment strategies, including the development of new drug treatments, as well as targeted gene therapy that could help stop the progression of this debilitating disease.
Toy Mountain
Toy Mountain is an annual project by the Salvation Army in accordance with CTV, and Majic 100 to help distribute toys during the Holiday Season in the Ottawa area. Their efforts help lighten the burden for those parents who cannot provide presents for their children.
During the 2012 holiday season, the Ottawa Preston branch challenged its employees to donate a toy to a less fortunate child. There was a great response from the entire branch in an effort to help give back to the community. This is the 9th consecutive year that the members of RBC Dominion Securities Ottawa Preston branch have participated in this event.

Day of Pink
April 13 is the Day of Pink, an annual campaign that seeks to engage people in schools, community organizations, and businesses to wear pink to help stop discrimination, bullying and homophobia.
The Day of Pink was born when a high school student in Cambridge, Nova Scotia was bullied because he wore a pink shirt to school. His fellow students decided to stand up to bullying; and hundreds of students came to school wearing pink to show their support.
Last year nearly 1,000 RBC employees joined millions of people across Canada and other countries for Day of Pink. In particular, we at the Dominion Securities Ottawa-Preston branch participated in a nation-wide webcast that discussed pertinent issues such bullying, homophobia, and discrimination in general.
Do It For Daron (DIFD)
Do It For Daron (DIFD) is a movement focused on issues surrounding youth mental health. This foundation was founded after Daron Richardson lost her life to suicide. Her friends and family were inspired to create a movement where youth experiencing problems could reach out without fear or concern of embarrassment. It is focused on helping to encourage conversation and communication for youth struggling with mental health issues.
RBC Dominion Securities at Ottawa Preston did its part to contribute to this cause by hosting a Euchre tournament. The entry fees to this card tournament were donated to the D.I.F.D. foundation in the hope of trying to raise awareness for youth mental health. The branch raised $800 to support the Power to the Purple movement.
