As expected, today’s FOMC policy announcement was more or less a non-event

As expected, today’s FOMC policy announcement was more or less a non-event, as the Fed held the Fed Funds rate steady between 1.00% and 1.25%. The run-up to the meeting went under the radar, with the Fed Chair sweepstakes taking headlines ahead of tomorrow’s (likely) announcement from President Trump. Trump added to the pre-decision noise by saying current Chair Yellen did an ‘excellent job,’ renewing rumors that she may still be in the running. But nonetheless, the change in the FOMC’s language in this month’s statement suggests the committee is all but committed to a 3rd rate hike in 2017 at their December 13th meeting.
