This month, I would like to feature an amazingly talented client of mine, Carol Demers, who participates in the annual East Side Culture Crawl , November 12–15 & 19–22. (hosted virtually this year) and has exhibitions in local venues, including the Ferry building Gallery on the Northshore, among others.
Carol left behind a career in Physiotherapy about 15 years ago to pursue an art practice full time. She currently works in ceramics and abstract painting and her ceramic work focuses mainly on coil built organic vessels that are smoke-fired. Her paintings are crafted with oil, pigments, plaster and encaustic.
She derives her inspiration equally from daily hikes in the dense mountain forests surrounding her home as well as from her explorations along the coast. Carol’s work is a visceral expression of her response to these experiences, using natural materials to render sensuous, tactile surfaces.
Carol’s work can be found in collections locally as well as in Montreal, Toronto, Japan, Switzerland and Australia. If you would like to see Carol’s work, please catch her and other talented artists at www.culturecrawl.ca or on Instagram at carol_demers or on her website www.caroldemers.com.
