As a child, Panos lived in Greece and Uruguay – and in Argentina, where he would have a friendly argument with his mother every Monday morning.

Young Panos took public transit to school. The problem was that the national currency was devaluing so quickly, Panos had to ask for more bus fare every week. “We finally agreed that whatever it cost for five bottles of Coke that day; that is what my mother would give me for the bus.”

In South America at that time, “there was always the fear that someone was going to take your money away from you,” Panos recalls. Banks would shut down, cutting off access to your money, but the monthly bills would keep coming. It was a difficult learning experience that guides, to this day, Panos’ approach to managing clients’ wealth.

He appreciates first-hand how hard people work for their money, and the importance of protecting and prudently growing it – so he set out to master it. First with an undergraduate degree in Economics and International Relations and then with a Masters in Economics from Northwestern University in the United States. Thus an economist by training, he began his financial services career in 1994 as an options trader in Chicago and joined RBC Dominion Securities in 2003.

The core purpose he shares with his team is straightforward but serious: to make his clients’ lives better. His vision is to have a lifelong relationship with every single one of them.

The route to that special relationship is paved by focusing every day on their mission: we are helpful to our clients, the very best way they need us to be.

In addition to his economics degrees, Panos holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), Certified Financial Planner (CFP) and Financial Management Advisor (FMA) designations.

He volunteers his time for organizations including the Windsor/St. Clair Rotary Club, District 23 of the American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association (AHEPA), Windsor South Canadian Little League Baseball and the Greek Orthodox Community of Windsor.

His extensive credentials, together with experience living on three continents and a deep commitment to community works in Windsor-Essex, means he quite literally brings a world of knowledge and perspective to his clients.

With a distinct passion for getting things done and renowned for working evenings and weekends, Panos moto is:

“Having integrity means more to us than simply the absence of deception. It means we are completely forthright in all our dealings. We say what needs to be said, not simply what people want to hear.” - Scott Cook, Intuit founder

“My father was a doctor, and my mother was a math teacher.  They encouraged me to work hard and achieve.  That’s why I need to do things this way.”

For Stella, “this way” means finding the best possible solutions for clients, always on their terms.  That’s why she is so attached to the mission statement she shares with the team:  We are helpful to our clients, the very best way they need us to be.  For Stella, it means putting herself in her clients’ shoes.

“We treat our clients the way we would want to be treated.  Our vision is to have a lifelong relationship with every single one of them.  What really makes us different is that we care deeply for our clients – and we want them to have the peace of mind to enjoy life. So when it comes to their investments, they are our priority.”

Originally from Albania, Stella is fluent in Albanian and Italian and can communicate in Greek.  Prior to joining Panos’ team in 2008, she was a professor at the University of Korca, Albania, a project administrator at Oxfam and Doctors Without Borders, and a branch manager at a bank. Stella holds a degree in Business Administration with a major in Marketing, has completed the Canadian Securities Course and holds the Personal Financial Planner (PFP) designation.

Stella Dhono grew up in a family where you couldn’t sleep in.  “It was day and you had to get up and like what you did.  All these years later, I get up every morning and I love what I do.”

Betty Ann Valente, CFP, PFP

Associate Wealth Advisor

519-252-3662 | Email me

Betty Ann Valente has been providing financial services for longer than the Toronto Blue Jays have been playing baseball. A self-made success story, Betty Ann has dedicated her entire adult professional life to helping clients leave her office feeling better informed and more confident about their financial futures. Something that comes very naturally and becomes the embodiment of their common vision:  “to make their client’s lives better, with the end result of a lifelong relationship with every single one of them.”

Betty Ann entered the financial services industry in 1976 as a fresh-faced 17-year-old by taking an entry-level position with Royal Trust. Before long, she found herself working through night school to further her education and begin to chart an unconventional – and uncommonly successful – career path.

Betty Ann was the first “Royal Banker” to secure a Personal Financial Planner designation. Today, she is also a Certified Financial Planner and licensed Insurance Agent, and she has completed the Canadian Securities Institute’s Wealth Management Essentials course.

At Sechopoulos Valente Group, Betty Ann looks after a diverse, multigenerational client base, focusing most keenly on wealth management and estate and financial planning. Her extensive experience provides her with a deep understanding of the broad financial services industry, and a real, intangible feel for the importance of meeting individual client needs.

The daughter of immigrants, Betty Ann retains the Old World, service-oriented values she developed in her small-town home of Embro, Ontario. She launched her financial services career in nearby Woodstock and spent time in London before relocating to Windsor more than 30 years ago.

Outside the office, Betty Ann does more than her fair share to improve the circumstances of underprivileged people in our community. Specifically, she has volunteered her time to the Downtown Mission and the Windsor Youth Centre.

In her free time, Betty Ann likes to travel, cook, and spend time with her husband and their son, Anthony.

Kelly Sutherland, B.Comm (Honours)

519-252-3262 | Email me

Kelly doesn’t like the word “customer.”

“That sounds too mechanical to me. We don’t have customers – we have clients. And we don’t talk to our clients mechanically. We talk to them on an individual basis. We exist to make their lives better, and we want a lifelong relationship with every single one of them.”

Kelly’s role is to handle all administrative tasks and connect clients with the expertise and resources they need. “I find it very interesting and fulfilling to help our clients and learn about their lives. And I actually enjoy worrying about them. We don’t worry about whether something is good for us. We worry about whether it’s good for them.”

An associate with 30 years of experience, Kelly is a fountain of knowledge for those clients. She holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree with a major in Human Resources from the University of Windsor, has completed the Canadian Securities Course and is insurance licensed.

“There are days when you really make a difference in someone’s life. Those days are the best.”
