Scott follows a disciplined and personal approach to the wealth management of each client. A tailor-made plan can effectively address the segments of a client’s financial world. Beginning with a long-term investment strategy, Scott and his team will create a supporting financial plan with a strong focus on retirement savings, income planning and risk-minimizing strategies to help you achieve your goals.
 
Scott has successfully undertaken a number of industry designations to assist him in the pursuit of providing exceptional service and advice to his clients. In 2010 Scott received his Certified Financial Planner (CFP®) designation to complement his Chartered Investment Manager (CIM) and Financial Management Advisor (FMA) designations. Scott was awarded the prestigious designation of Fellow of the Canadian Securities Institute (FCSI) in 2005. Recognized as the highest honor in the Canadian financial services industry, the FCSI designation is only bestowed upon those whose training and experience exemplify excellence.
 
Scott and his wife Beth, have two children, Jackson and Kate. Together they enjoy spending time on the local Okanagan lakes boating and camping in the summers and taking advantage of the exceptional ski resort at Silver Star Mountain in the winter months. Scott enjoys golfing, hockey, skiing and reading in his spare time.

Before joining The Cooper Boyd Advisory Group in 2011, Tanis worked in many areas of the branch, developing an impressive knowledge base of the investment services business, which benefits client portfolio administration and helps the team deliver exceptional client service. In 2007, Tanis became a Licensed Associate after successfully completing the Canadian Securities Course and Conducts and Practices Handbook course.
 
Tanis is responsible for our clients’ day-to-day administration needs. She handles any inquiries promptly and efficiently, ensuring a high level of personalized service.
 
Tanis and her husband Luke, have two young sons Ryder and Kolten. They enjoy family time outdoors, including skiing in the winter, and weekends on Shuswap Lake in the summer. In her spare time Tanis enjoys softball, snowboarding and reading.

Brenda and her husband Glen have 3 grown children and enjoy the outdoors, spending time with family and friends. In her spare time, Brenda appreciates her time in the kitchen cooking and baking along with a bit of an artistic flair for designing and making bracelets.

 


Our Storied History

Our story begins in 1987 when Gary Cooper, our founding partner, joined the investment firm Midland Dougherty in Abbotsford, British Columbia. It was there where Gary built the majority of the long term client relationships, many of which we serve to this day. In 1994, Gary was asked to take on the responsibility of opening a branch office for Midland in Vernon, British Columbia. Gary and his family moved to the Okanagan and over the next six years Gary further built upon his success.

After a number of corporate amalgamations in the Investment industry, Gary decided that his ability to serve his clients on a higher level would best be done at RBC Dominion Securities Inc. and in the summer of 1999 he made the switch. Gary asked his clients to join him as he moved his entire investment management practice to RBC Dominion Securities. After a very successful transition, Gary continued to build his practice through exemplary investment management and a genuine concern for his clients' best interests.

Shortly after joining RBC Dominion Securities, Gary approached by Bob Dilworth to serve his clients, entered an agreement to take over the management of the clients currently working with Bob Dilworth who was intending to retire. In 2000, Gary took over full management of these clients. 

In September 2005, Scott Boyd joined RBC Dominion Securities Inc. as an Investment Advisor and ran his practice until 2007 when he and Gary agreed that a partnership held the best interest for their collective clients. Scott began his Financial Services career in 1996 and worked for three large national investment firms in Vancouver, until he and his family relocated to Vernon, British Columbia in 2003.

On January 1, 2007, the Cooper Boyd Advisory Group was established. This partnership was created in an effort to combine the unique skill set of each partner and transfer that to the client experience. This is where Investment Management and Wealth Planning processes were integrated together and an elevated level of Wealth Management was created.

In the fall of 2008, Jamie Paterson made the decision to relocate his Investment Management practice from a Canadian national investment firm to RBC Dominion Securities Inc. and the majority of his clients made the transition with him. Jamie began his career in investment management in 1991 after many years of successful business ventures in the Vernon, British Columbia area. Jamie was extremely dedicated to his clients during his tenure and committed himself to providing them with exceptional service and advice. In 2010, after his first 2 years with RBC Dominion Securities, Jamie decided to amalgamate his investment management practice with the Cooper Boyd Advisory Group to help incorporate the Wealth Planning aspect of his service offering.

On January 31, 2015, Jamie made the decision to retire from the investment management business after 24 successful years. Jamie transitioned his entire practice to the management of Gary and Scott, who remained committed to maintaining the high standards that Jamie had established with his clients over the years.

On June 1, 2017, Gary Cooper announced he would be retiring after 30 years of successfully assisting his clients achieve their financial goals and for the next six months Gary transitioned the clients he serviced to Scott's management. November 30, 2017 would mark Gary's final day.

Today the Cooper Boyd Advisory Group lives on in the spirit of those who had a vision to build a framework and philosophies that provided our clients with sound wealth management advice and focused directly on helping them and their families achieve their life goals. Under the management of Scott Boyd, the Cooper Boyd Advisory Group and its team of experienced professionals, is committed to the legacy created by its founders and former partners, to ensure that the clients experience always exceeds expectations with a very personal approach.
