January 24, 2019 - Insights into the equity, fixed-income, currency and commodity markets from RBC Wealth Management.

Yes, the biggest North American sports and television event of the year is about to happen Sunday – the Super Bowl halftime show!

Ok, the “Big Game” is quite popular as well.

If the NFL was the U.S. equity market and each team was a stock in the market – I know, I have weird thoughts like this sometimes – the New England Patriots would be the undisputed best stock on the exchange over the last 15 years. Actually, no, I am not their biggest fan. They have some past ethical issues; “Inflate gate” anyone, and secretly videotaping other teams’ practices come to mind. However, every corporation and executive does make mistakes. There is no arguing they are a very well managed corporation (team), they are highly dedicated, focused, and execute their mission better than any company on the exchange. Therefore, their ROI (return on investment) would definitely warrant holding the stock. A stringent eye on the company for any issues, not the least of which are the ageing rainmaker (Quarterback Tom Brady) and the wily Executive leader (Coach Bill Belichick), either or both of whom could retire at any time.

Don’t worry, I do also think the same thoughts as every other Football fan “how could they possibly call that play, if I was coaching…what was that Ref. thinking…Wow! That was an incredible move.”

Whether your preference is the game or the performance of Maroon 5, Travis Scott, and Big Boi, I hope you tune in to enjoy the unparalleled event!
