Economic outlook: though we expect markets to rise, we are also more cautious than at any time in the past decade.

In my last blog, I referenced RBC Dominion Securities Chief Analyst Jim Allworth's cautious tone in his Fall outlook.  Today we have published our outlook for 2020, and we have expanded upon that theme.

Here is the link:  RBC Global 2020 Global Outlook

The publication starts with an assessment of all the components in the global economy, then moves into opinion articles.  For those of you who were interested in my last blog, I recommend the first article in particular.

  • In the first article (p10) Jim's commentary builds the case on our position that though we expect markets to rise, we are also more cautious than at any time in the past decade.
  • The second article, Upside Down, discusses negative interest rates and how this may change investor behaviour
  • The third article is titled The low rates puzzle: Is the solution to the last problem the source of the next?: Are low interest rates and accommodative central bank policy sowing the seeds of future problems?
  • A new industrial revolution is the final article.  It discusses how a new dawn is transforming the investment outlook for the Industrials sector.
