Rob Becker, CFA, grew up in Ottawa, Ontario. He graduated from Carleton University in 2002 with a Bachelor of International Business (High Honours). As part of this program, Rob lived in Monterrey, Mexico for a year and studied at la Universidad de Monterrey. He also spent a year in Osaka, Japan. Rob earned his Chartered Financial Analyst Designation in 2008.
From 2002 to 2004, Rob was a Profitability Analyst at MBNA Canada Bank, advising senior management on the viability of various marketing initiatives as well as performing cost benefit analyses on all new technology projects. After moving abroad to Asia to teach English and travel, Rob joined BMO Capital Markets as an Investment Banking Analyst in the Diversified Industries Group in 2006. This extremely challenging role gave Rob a unique insight into the capital markets and provided him with a wealth of experience advising the top management of many of Canada's best known public companies. Rob participated in many public transactions and focused on a wide range of sectors, notably business services, forestry and steel.
In 2008, Rob moved to the "buy side" as an Associate Director for Bank of Scotland. In this role, Rob refined his credit analysis skills that are one of the key differentiators of his skill set. Rob made investment recommendations on a wide variety of large scale corporate and real estate credits and was on the front lines of the 2008 credit crisis. As a consequence of economic instability in the UK, Bank of Scotland was purchased by Lloyds Bank and the Canadian office was closed in October 2009.
After spending 2 months backpacking through Indonesia, Rob joined RBC Dominion Securities in January 2010 and has been using his advisory skills to help a broad range of clients achieve their financial goals. His sincere dedication to the needs of those he works with separates him as an advisor that clients take pride in recommending to the people they care about.
Rob now lives with his two sons, Jack and Charlie in Toronto's Little Italy. Rob is a proud supporter of numerous charities including Sick Kids Hospital and Doctors without Borders. He is an avid marathon runner and triathlete, completing the Mont Tremblant Ironman in 2019. His interests include travel, backcountry camping, podcasts and reading.
