Richard brings a host of personal and business experience as a financial and wealth manager. He leads a team of established professionals with expertise in portfolio management, insurance, and tax and estate planning. Together they deliver thoughtful solutions tailored to each client’s objectives, drawing from a wide selection of world-class products and services.

Richard provides wealth management services to affluent business owners, professionals and retirees. His financial planning process helps families alleviate the common worries related to succession and estate planning for future generations. His “tax-aware” approach to investing focuses on after-tax performance. He looks to match the goals of the portfolio with the client’s unique needs and tax situation. This ensures his clients’ portfolios do not forfeit returns based on insufficient tax consideration. He also believes that one must take the emotion out of investing and give wealth management strategies the time to succeed. 

Richard earned an Honours of Business Administration degree from the Richard Ivey School of Business and holds the Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA), Certified Management Accountant (CMA), Canadian Investment Manager (CIM), Certified Financial Planner (CFP) and Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation.

Irene serves as a key strategic figure on Richard’s team. She has a strong and varied background in the investment business in Canada and abroad and chairs the Asian Strategy and China Project. Over her 30 years in the investment industry Irene has assembled an extremely strong, insightful and intelligent investment management team with over $700 million in assets under management. She is well positioned to provide highly professional advice to both individual and corporate clients.

Irene is frequently asked to appear in media to comment on investment and financial matters. She has also written and published three books: Your Money Matters, Greater China and its Financial Market and Investing in Greater China. All three books were sold in major cities across Canada, the U.S. and Hong Kong.

Michael works closely with Richard and Irene to ensure you receive timely, efficient service. He plays an important role in the trade execution, monitoring and day-to-day management of client’s portfolio. He also helps organize marketing initiatives to communicate the importance of wealth management.

Prior to joining RBC, Michael earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from York University, Seymour Schulich School of Business, with a specialization in accounting.     

Dennis Wong

Dennis has been with the team since 2010 after graduating from the University of Toronto. He obtained his Bachelor of Business Administration degree, with a specialization in finance.

Dennis' strong communication skills, dedication to accuracy and courteous client service plays a vital role in contributing to Richard team. He is the main point of contact for administrative inquires and also helps manage the team’s daily matters.

Steven Mogdan, CA, CFP

Financial Planning Specialist

Steven’s role as a Financial Planning Specialist is to work and support Richard’s team in preparing and presenting comprehensive financial planning solutions to clients. He completed his Bachelor of Business Administration at York University in 1989 and subsequently completed the CICA In-Depth Tax course.

He has also achieved the advanced designations of Chartered Accountant (CA) and Certified Financial Planner (CFP). During his time as a tax and financial practitioner with several professional service firms, Steven specialized in Canadian, U.S. and cross-border personal income taxation, and provided planning and preparation services to clients. He also has professional experience with the RBC Tax Advisory Group and RBC Dexia, where he provided tax advice to various business units within RBC. As an experienced practitioner in financial matters, Steven has written or contributed to many research articles, industry publications, training materials and client presentations.


Connie Freitas

Will & Estate Consultant

Connie’s role as a Will & Estate Consultant is to help you understand how Will & Estate planning can help achieve your goals. Connie obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Toronto in 1989 and a Bachelor of Laws degree from Osgoode Hall Law School in 1992.  She was called to the Ontario bar in 1994.

Prior to joining RBC, Connie practised law for 18 years.  As a partner in a mid-sized full-service law firm, her practise was varied and covered the areas of corporate/commercial law, real estate, and wills, trusts and estates law.  In that role, Connie advised her owner-manager clients on a broad range of business and personal needs, from purchases and sales of businesses, to shareholder agreements and corporate reorganizations, to will and estate planning.

For many years Connie taught Business Law section of the Bar Admissions Course and was involved with preparing the licensing exams for Ontario lawyers.  Throughout her career, Connie has been involved in her broader community, serving on many non-profit boards as well as providing pro bono legal services


J. Mark Skeggs

Business Owner Specialist

As a Business Owner Specialist, Mark partners with Richard’s team to explore the tax, estate, succession and retirement planning issues you encounter as a business owner. As your Business Owner Specialist, Mark will work closely with Richard to identify strategies and solutions that are customized to meet your personal and business planning objectives. Tax, business risk, succession, and retirement strategies, some that are particular to the business owner/manager, will be identified, which you would then discuss with your lawyer and accountant.

Prior to joining RBC, Mark spent over 14 years in the Private Company Services tax group of a Big 4 accounting firm in Toronto. Acting as a trusted business advisor for Ultra High Net Worth families, Mark was responsible for the creation and implementation of effective strategies for wealth preservation and accumulation in the context of tax, estate and succession planning for owner-managers of private companies, senior executives of public companies and professional athletes.

Mark is a Chartered Professional Accountant, Chartered Accountant, Certified Financial Planner, and a Trust and Estate Practitioner. He has completed the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners Advance Certificate in Family Business Advising, all three levels of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants In-Depth Tax Course, as well as the Advanced Tax Issues for the Owner-Managed Business Course and the Corporate Reorganizations Course. Mark has served as Chair of the Board of Evaluators for the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario and Treasurer for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Ontario. He obtained his Bachelor of Commerce (Hons.) from Queen's University.

Ken Mau, CPA, CA

As a Business Owner Specialist, Ken helps you explore succession, tax, retirement and estate planning issues you face as a business owner. Ken uses a holistic approach in assisting business owners and to identify solutions for their concerns.  Ken understands the challenges that business owners face and therefore formulates effective strategies and solutions to address those challenges.  These include family governance structure, business succession, cross-generation wealth transfer strategies and tax and estate planning before and after retirement.

Ken earned a Bachelor of Business and Commerce degree at the University of Alberta, and qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1989.  He is fluent in English, Mandarin and Cantonese, and is a frequent speaker at numerous well-attended international and domestic forums and seminars for ultra/high-net-worth audiences.


Anna Kubicek, CFP

Anna is a valuable member of Richard’s team, helping you create and preserve your wealth. Anna began her career in the insurance industry in 1996 working for one of the largest financial planning companies in Canada. In 2011, she joined RBC.

Anna attended Ryerson University and earned her degree in Hospitality & Tourism. She acquired her Certified Financial Planner (CFP) designation in 1998 and is currently pursuing her Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) designation. Additionally, she is a member of Advocis, Canada’s largest membership of professional financial advisors.
