"This year has seen the market diverge from the historical averages in ways that have surprised most everyone. The statistically “worst six months of the year,” the period from April through October, has a flat to slightly down record depending on how far back we look at the data. But this year, the Dow Industrials gained some 14% for the six months, which is better than the long-term averages for an entire year."
