In October, we took a tour of the Caetani Center in Vernon, and learned the fascinating story behind the incredible artwork of Sveva Caetani. Rich in history and a place of inspiration for artists in residence, the house was donated to the Greater Vernon community in 1994, and is now open to the public. Our tour began with the history of the Caetani family in Italy, who were descendants of Italian royalty. Within the house, there is an impressive collection of memorabilia, artifacts, and Sveva’s artwork, including Sveva’s “Recapitulation” series of paintings, family photographs, and home movies. The volunteers at the Caetani Center are working tirelessly to bring Sveva’s legacy to all, and are expanding the gallery which houses her works.
I highly recommend the Caetani House to anyone who loves art, heritage, and history. You can learn more about the Caetani Center at www.caetani.org, as well as sponsorship opportunities to help bring her paintings to the public here.
