Good afternoon,

June is a happy time for most, with the beginning of summer and school vacation around the corner.  Jason and I are looking forward to a great camping adventure with the kids in July as we white water raft our way down the Grand Canyon and sleep under the stars.

This Sunday let us celebrate Father's Day - "The quality of a father can be seen in the goals, dreams and aspirations he sets not only for himself, but for his family".

I hope everyone has an opportunity to take advantage of the warm weather this week and spend some time outdoors.

Warm Regards,

Rhonda and Hymers Team

Why We Favor Investments with Dividends

A company that has regularly grown its dividend tends to be of higher quality, and more likely to deliver dividend payments consistently over time, than a company that doesn’t increase its dividend regularly. Dividend growers also tend to have more capital appreciation potential. Consistent dividend growth has usually been a reliable sign of financial strength and dependable earnings performance versus peers. It is also a sign that management has delivered in good times as well as in challenging ones, and is focused on shareholders.

A basket of large-capitalization U.S. dividend-paying stocks has outperformed the S&P 500 in all but one decade since the 1930s. The 1990s was the exception because Technology shares, most of which did not pay dividends, enjoyed a strong run late in the decade that had an outsized influence on overall returns. All of that advantage—and more—was given back in the “tech wreck” bear market early in the following decade.

So far in 2019 our dividend focused strategy has delivered as every position in our Canadian model significantly increased their dividend.

As the U.S. and China dig in their heels, we survey the state of the trade war and look at why the U.S. is targeting China's high-tech capability.

Kidney Walk 2019 - June 2nd at Boyce-Gyro Park

Kidney Walk Central Okanagan is a community fundraising event to raise funds and celebrate hope for people living with kidney disease.  Our fundraising dollars also support programs and services such as comfort items for the dialysis unit, educational materials, travel assistance to receive treatment or transplant in Vancouver, emergency grants and loans.

Hymers Wealth Management Group partnered with RBC Dominion Securities and RBC Royal Bank to help support the Kidney Walk but most importantly, our very own Patrick Ng, Investment Advisor with Dominion Securities who received a new kidney in early April.  Patrick is a true inspiration to us all and says, "The operation was a success and the new kidney is adapting well to his body".  Though it's only been about two months since the transplant, Patrick feels well on the road to recovery.  As a gift to Patrick, Rhonda and RBC Wealth Management donated $2000 dollars to the Kidney Foundation of Canada in his honor.
