The Ottawa Main Branch employees have worked alongside the Ottawa Mission’s staff to ensure they meet the needs of people who are homeless, hungry and hurting. Over 250 people volunteer at the shelter every week and they have a large impact on the Mission’s ability to help people in need.
Day of Pink:
April 10, 2019 marks the International Day of Pink. On this day, communities and organizations across the country and across the world wear pink to show solidarity towards homophobia, transphobia, transmisogyny, and all forms of bullying.
The International Day of Pink is run by youth volunteers from Jer’s Vision in Ottawa, and our Branch joins the millions of people every year who wear pink and support their peers internationally. To learn more, please visit https://dayofpink.org/
RMH Day of Service:
RBC and its employees have been longstanding supporters of Ronald MacDonald House Charities Canada (RMHC). In 2013, RBC pledged $500,000 to RMHC Canada as part of the Children's Mental Health Project to create the RBC/RMHC Canada Mental Health Pilot Program.
In addition to this exciting initiative, RMHC was selected to be the official charity partner of the RBC Canadian Open - raising funds for children’s wellness initiatives for each year of the RBC Canadian Open. The Ottawa Main Branch regularly gets involved with the RMHC, and the RBC Wealth Management foundation made a $1,000 donation to the RMHC in recognition of our engagement. The Ottawa food bank provides a range of services to help people get beyond hunger. By working with local agencies, farmers, Ottawa social services and food industry partners they: grow, collect, purchase, sort and distribute food to 38,400 people every month. RBC Dominion Securities is the main sponsor of the Bon Appetit Ottawa event held every year at the Aberdeen Pavillion. The Bon Appetit event is a food and wine show that features over 90 restaurants and caterers and dozens of wineries and breweries. Over 2000 people enjoy creations of the region's top chefs and samplings of renowned wineries.
This event provides support for both hunger and poverty relief in the National Capital Region. Driven by the hospitality industry to support the operational needs of local charities, Bon Appetit Ottawa focuses on children and the elderly. In April 2016, the Bon Appetit Ottawa organization received the Mayor’s City Builder Award to recognize their outstanding volunteerism and extraordinary commitment to making Ottawa a better place. Blue Water Day
Blue Water Day and the Blue Project is an effort that was started by RBC to help create a more sustainable environment. On Blue Water Day, RBC employees across all of our businesses participate in the cleaning up aquatic ecosystems, to allow present and future generations to enjoy clean water.
