Michael has the expertise to resolve clients’ unique challenges, and delivers his services at the highest level of professional quality. He develops comprehensive financial plans to help his clients achieve their long-term goals, covering the investment, insurance, tax-efficient and estate planning aspects of their individual situations.

Michael has the Canadian Investment Manager (CIM) designation, a portfolio management qualification with a Canadian focus, and the Fellow of the Canadian Securities Institute (FCSI) designation.

Recognized as the highest honour in the financial services industry, the FCSI is reserved for financial services professionals who have met the most exacting standards for industry experience, advanced education and solid endorsement from their peers and superiors.

Michael began his career in the financial services industry in 1992. He is a frequent guest on BNN Market Call, where he takes viewer emails and calls in a live format, and has been featured in The Globe and Mail Report on Business.

Amanda manages the administrative hub of The Newton Group and ensures a high level of client service is maintained at all times.

Amanda has worked closely with Michael since 1997, starting at Midland Walwyn and then CIBC Wood Gundy before spending almost 10 years at Macquarie Private Wealth and its predecessor firms prior to joining ScotiaMcLeod, and now RBC Dominion Securities. Her dedication and attention to detail make Amanda an invaluable member of The Newton Group.

Austin Walker

Austin joined the Newton Group in June of 2018 as an Investment Associate, and brings with him a strong background in finance, insurance, and financial planning. As a member of the team, Austin works closely with clients to review and advise on their existing financial situation, with an emphasis on cash flow and tax planning, retirement planning, and estate planning. He also assists Mike in the construction and monitoring of the Newton Group model portfolios, and works with Amanda to ensure that client requests are seamlessly and efficiently executed.

Prior to joining the Newton Group, Austin spent a year in the Wealth Management Associate program where he worked with a number of different advisor teams across ScotiaMcLeod, and successfully obtained the Certified Financial Planner designation, as well as his Life and Accident & Sickness Insurance License. He is a graduate of Queen’s Smith School of Business, and can often be found active in his community on the tennis court, in the hockey rink, or on the golf course.
