It would be great if life were plain sailing but it’s not. My passion is to bring clarity to people as they face changes, so they can look forward with confidence. I have a talent for listening to people and for designing unique plans that change as they do, so you always know where you’re going. I’m also a deep thinker who loves sharing adventures and speed sports with my family.
My professional qualifications include the CIM designation, which means I’m a Portfolio Manager who invests for clients on a discretionary basis. I also have a PhD in English Literature from Oxford University. Before taking on my current role at RBC, I worked as an Associate Professor in the UK, and the academic background has given me an international outlook and a preference for the long-term that continue to benefit my work for clients as a Portfolio Manager. The best things I enjoy about my job are the close relationships I have developed with clients, and the pleasure of having team members become friends.
I’m a big believer in being active in the community. I served for many years on the Sarnia-Lambton Chamber of Commerce board of directors, including as Chair, and continue to be an active member of the Rotary Club of Sarnia. Our signature Pancake Breakfast fundraiser in July is a great community favourite.
My wife and I share a taste for adventure and we’ve always sought to make this a family affair. We’ve lived in the UK, France and even Malaysia, and can get by in five languages. In Canada we love backcountry canoeing: the longer the portages, the better. I enjoy all sports requiring self-control at high speed, especially skiing, cycling and horseback riding. So far, I’ve only convinced the family to join me skiing.
