November Blog!

Most of us are connected in some way to a soldier who fought for our country. For some, that soldier was a son or a daughter. For others it was a grandparent, an aunt or uncle, or even a friend or neighbor. Every November 11th, we pause as a nation to remember their service.

No matter where you find yourself on November 11th, if you want to honor the legacies of those who gave everything for our freedom – here are 5 things you can do.

With two of, the generally, most volatile months now behind us, November certainly was off to a great start!  The last couple of months saw a dramatic rise in bond yields (which means bonds decline in value) based on an anticipation of possible further right hikes, with some of the fairly resilient economic data we saw.  Throughout the course of the year, we have added to individual bonds in order to preserve and protect capital, all the while positioning portfolios to be more defensive.

Based on some of the more recent softening economic data, we are still maintaining a cautious stance, should we see the Canadian and US economies enter a recession.

A recession has been discussed in the media for quite some time now. We recognize, given that market started to become somewhat volatile roughly 2 years ago, that this period of rising rates and as a result, market, volatility, has felt like an eternity! Please know that we are well positioned to be able to take advantage of some of the declines that we have seen in a great number of good quality, dividend paying stocks. Patience will pay off, over the long run.   Further details on equity and fixed income markets, economics, and an interesting piece on artificial intelligence are available in this link.
