What’s going to be interesting on the call is looking at the link between Oil prices, and inflation. The U.S. Consumer Price Index (CPI) for August was released over the past week and it was up 8.3% year over year: the good news is that it was lower month over month, but still higher than expected. Food and energy price pressures remained elevated, although Oil did decline. Whether Oil and energy prices will remain at this level (much lower than a few months ago), plays a big part of the inflation picture going forward. It’s going to be quite a conflict between raising rates, and not dampening the economy too much. For the first time in many years, however, in Canada for instance, some GIC’s are now being offered at 4.7% or even higher for 1 year…

Finally, was in shock, even though it wasn’t shocking that Roger Federer announced his retirement. He was a favorite pick of mine for predictions of winning many Grand Slams in these entries. I do wonder if in my lifetime there will be another tennis player who I'll follow and cheer for for many years. I reached out to ask him if he wants some retirement help, but so far haven’t heard back…

Have a great weekend!
