So many things to cover and comment on. What a trying few years it’s been: just as things seem to be improving on the Covid front, as things open up, we are now faced with many weeks and months of headlines dominated by the Russian invasion of Ukraine. I found the internal RBC overview very useful, to at least provide some framework of all the implications, and the link is at the bottom.

 

From an investment perspective, I have been reaching out to many of you, and will be in touch with everyone in the next week to go over your portfolios and discuss how we are feeling, and changes to be made.

 

I do want to highlight two charts:

 

First, there hasn’t been anywhere really to “hide”, rather just relative “not so poor” sectors:

 

 

Second, some might view an armed conflict as a net long-term negative to a portfolio and your investments. As hard as it is, perhaps rationalize this, when viewed on a historical basis, an armed conflict does bring about a downturn in the market. We just can’t panic, (or predict a bottom), but also need to be mindful that not all sectors and companies will all react the same on the way down, as the market inevitably recovers.

 

Geopolitical sell-offs are typically short-lived:
