Election primer: Canadian markets and governing parties

With the Canadian election under 2 weeks away, let us have a quick glance at how markets have historically performed under different government structures (minority/majority/governing party). Looking at market behavior in a vacuum such as this is nothing to hang your investment hopes on, however it is an interesting exercise when conducted among others. 



Market reaction to elections in Canada, have been fairly muted out of the gate, however it can be noted that Conservative minorities, and Conservative majorities have shown the most favorably (from a return perspective) between election periods. 


I guess now we wait and see. Make sure you get out there and vote....or mail it in....or however it works these days.
