EVs: How green are you really?

As Niki and I have been shopping around for a replacement "all season vehicle", we have been surveying the landscape of available electric options. Admittedly, the range is not exactly broad for the applications we need, and what we have found, is that the cost is extraordinarily high on a relative basis against internal combustion (IC) options. All of that aside, an article in the Financial times caught my eye earlier this week.

How green is the EV you are driving anyway. It actually starts waaaaayyyy before it ends up in your driveway, if you want to do a relative comparison against IC powered vehicles. I invite you to read this interactive story in the times by CLICKING THIS LINK HERE.

As it turns out, despite having far fewer moving parts, the carbon footprint left behind during the construction of the EV is actually much higher than its IC counterpart. In fact, a study out of  China showed that the carbon footprint left behind during the EV manufacturing process can be as much as 60% higher!! That was unexpected.

I don't want to give everything away, so I invite you to enjoy the interactive article, and let us know what you think.

Also.......if you have any recommendations for Niki and I, we could use them.....and soon.
