Green investing: Good intentions vs good investments

A philosophical question to ponder as it relates to your personal finances, and investment portfolio. Do your allow your personal views around the issues of the day, guide your investment portfolio decisions? Is it politics? Human interest stories? The environment?

Ask yourself this question.....would you have avoided investing in US companies when Donald Trump was president because you were turned off that a nation would vote in such leadership? Had you done so, it would have been expensive.

Now, that example may be extreme, but I bring it up for a reason. Environmentally conscious investing (thematic), has been growing in popularity for many years. You want to make the right decisions with your investment dollars, but you also want to be impactful in terms of what you are supporting.

The attached report  looks at renewable energy investments, discussing whether they are in fact good investments.....or just good minded investments. I found it especially interesting that Canada's power grid already generates 80% of its power from renewable sources, so does opportunity really exist in this country, or should we be looking abroad.
