Matt Hillyard is an Associate Portfolio Manager and Financial Planner with The Hillyard Stephen Group at RBC Dominion Securities. He is one of the founding members of the team and is integral to the ongoing success and continued satisfaction of our clients. Matt specializes in multi generational wealth management strategies for high net worth private clients but also co-manages a number of institutional asset management files.
Mr. Hillyard has a long history in the finance industry including a number of client facing investment advisory roles at RBC and a previous role with another major national financial institution.
Matt is committed to continually enhancing his knowledge of both the financial planning and investment world and as such has completed the Financial Management Advisor, Personal Financial Planning, and Chartered Investment Manager designations through the Canadian Securities Institute. He has also finished a number of industry licensing exams and continues to expand his understanding of all things to do with finance, economics, and the stewardship of wealth.
Proper wealth planning and ongoing professional advice are a central focus of Matt's in his ongoing dealings with private clients. He strongly believes that to be truly successful in building and protecting wealth, individual clients must fully participate in the formal wealth planning process in conjunction with a team of qualified and coordinated professionals (legal, investment, accounting, banking, insurance). A proper wealth management plan typically encompasses retirement, estate, tax, succession, investment, banking/lending, risk management, and trust planning.
In the institutional asset management space, Matt is focused on executing process driven investment strategies in collaboration with investment fiduciaries (board members, trustees, investment committees) and/or business owners directly. The Hillyard Stephen Group advocates the use of "modern portfolio theory", the use of both traditional and non traditional assets, and an adherence to prudent practices standards.
