Stephen (Steve) attended the University of Windsor where he completed a Bachelor of Commerce degree with a concentration in Accounting. He is a Chartered
Accountant and prior to joining RBC he worked for a public accounting firm as their Tax Manager. During this time, Stephen specialized in providing an array of tax planning and preparation services, including U.S. cross-border issues, to both individuals and privately owned corporations.
Stephen is a Chartered Accountant, a Certified Financial Planner and has completed Parts I and II of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants' In-Depth Tax Courses.
As a Financial Planning Specialist at RBC Wealth Management Services, Stephen's role is to work with and support Angelo in preparing and presenting comprehensive Compass Financial Plans for clients.
Murray Shapiro, BA, LLB, TEP
High Net Worth Planning Services
Murray has been providing advice and technical support in relation to high-net-worth family wealth planning since 1994. Conversations include scenarios to be aware of in transitioning, including the costs of transitioning your assets to your intended heirs. Additional areas of concern may include tax, asset preservation and philanthropic planning. His expertise encompasses both domestic and international family circumstances, and covers planning applicable to many countries around the world.
Before joining RBC's Canadian Wealth Management Services team in 2008, Murray worked with RBC's Global Private Banking group as the senior resource in their global trust business for over 13 years.
Prior to joining RBC, Murray practiced law for six years in the areas of estate and tax planning, as well as various areas of business law.
Murray was a Director of STEP Canada (Society of Trust & Estate Practitioners) from its inception until 2009, and has been a member of the International Tax Planning Association and the Canadian Tax Foundation over the years. Murray works closely with Jonathan to identify strategies and solutions on structuring your affairs in a manner that addresses your overall wealth planning needs, which you would then discuss and implement with your accountant or lawyer.
Mark Skeggs, CPA, CA, CFP, TEP
Business Owner Specialist and High Net Worth Planning
As a Business Owner Specialist, High Net Worth Planning Services, Mark, together with Jonathan, helps you explore succession, tax, retirement and estate planning issues you face as a business owner.
Prior to joining RBC, Mark spent over 14 years in the Private Company Services tax group of a Big 4 accounting firm in Toronto. Acting as a trusted business advisor for Ultra High Net Worth families, Mark was responsible for the creation and implementation of effective strategies for wealth preservation and accumulation in the context of tax, estate and succession planning for owner-managers or private companies, senior executives of public companies and professional athletes.
Mark is a Chartered Professional Accountant, Chartered Accountant, Certified Financial Planner, and a Trust and Estate Practitioner. He has completed the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners Advance Certificate in Family Business Advising, all three levels of the CPA Canada In-Depth Tax Course, as well as the Advanced Tax Issues for the Owner-Managed Business Course and the Corporate Reorganizations Course.
Mark has served as Chair of the Board of Evaluators for CPA Ontario and Treasurer for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Ontario. He obtained his Bachelor of Commerce (Hons.) from Queen's University.
Rick Squires, CLU, CH.F.C., TEP
Rick began his career in the insurance industry in 1982 and is an expert in his field. He has acquired the Chartered Life Underwriter, Chartered Financial Consultant and Registered Trust and Estate Practitioner designations.
Rick employs a comprehensive process to assess your wealth management needs and then recommends creative, tax-exempt insurance strategies to help address them. For more complicated situations, he works with your other professional advisors in the development of appropriate solutions.
Rick Squires can focus on both personal and corporate insurance solutions to help increase your net worth, reduce the impact of taxation and secure your wealth through a variety of life insurance, annuity, and living benefits solutions. Mary Metel, LL.B.
Will and Estate Consultant
Mary obtained her Bachelor of Laws from the University of Western Ontario in 1983. She was called to the Ontario Bar in 1985.
Following her call to the Bar, Mary was in private practice for 24 years, specializing in the areas of will and estate planning, estate administration, real estate and corporate law. Since 2011, she has worked exclusively in the areas of will and estate planning with a major trust company and a bank. Mary joined RBC Wealth Management in October, 2016.
Mary is a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada and the Middlesex Law Association.
