With Canadians heading to the polls only 10 short days from now, this report, “Federal election 2021: A summary of Key Tax and Economic Platform Promises” [HERE] provides a detailed breakdown of each of the main party “promises”. The information in the report is as of September 1, 2021 and was collected from each of the parties’ platform documents, the 2021 federal budget and announcements made by each of them during their election campaigns.
For those of you not following John Stackhouse’s daily “Current Account” [click here to subscribe if interested], this is (in part) what he wrote on September 8th:
The Nothing Election of 2021 is heading into the home stretch, without a defining issue, clear leader or any measure of public interest… As for policies, there’s not a vast difference between parties. Which means the September 20 vote could come down to a personality choice, largely between Trudeau and O’Toole… Trudeau will likely portray O’Toole as two-faced—a retrograde wolf in progressive sheep’s clothing. O’Toole is likely to go after Trudeau on managerial competence. As for the NDP’s Jagmeet Singh, who’s run the most coherent and consistent campaign, he may try to summon his best inner Jack Layton for a positive face of change. But he’s also likely to go on the attack. In a dull campaign, Job One is to motivate traditional supporters, and there’s nothing like fear and loathing to get people to the polls.
