Keeping you informed of what is happening in the market is a crucial part of our role. There have been some significant changes over the past week and we summarize our key thoughts below.

Audio commentary: Coronavirus and the outlook for the U.S., Canada, oil, and market impact

As the uncertainty and volatility from COVID-19 continue to spread, I wanted to share two presentations that we recorded this week to provide some perspective on the market. We spoke with Lori Calvasina, RBC Capital Markets Head of U.S. Equity Strategy, about the outlook for U.S. equity markets. She told us what she’s observing from the situation’s evolving dynamics, which sectors are showing potential, and what the implications are for the earnings picture. For a Canadian perspective, Mark Bayko, Head of the Portfolio Advisory Group, and Patrick McAllister, Canadian Portfolio Advisor, discussed how the coronavirus outbreak and oil price shock are impacting the Canadian economy, the stock market, what they’re observing from the fast-moving developments, and what to expect from here.

For Lori Calvasina and the state of U.S. equities listen to this audio file (approximately 19-minute duration).

For Mark Bayko, Patrick McAllister and the state of Canadian equities Listen here (approximately 14-minute duration)

Going forward, I will be posting articles and other relevant information regarding COVID-19 to my website, www.connorryan.ca, daily. I will continue to email updates twice a week, but if you were looking for more details between emails, feel free to check out my website for links to external articles and blog posts about the market. As always, if you have any questions or need further guidance, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Stay safe,
