Hi, and welcome back to  “I’m a Millionaire! So Now What?” . We have two entrepreneurs on the show, Mireille Spencer-Faucon and Nichol Turner who met through the Canadian Society of Professional Event Planners (CanSPEP) and founded a virtual event company together called Eventfluent. Hybrid events are critical for any event in the world of Covid-19, which had a devastating impact on the events industry and turned our way of gathering upside down.

These entrepreneurs bring their expertise in event planning to associations and companies, helping them host hybrid professional meetings, conferences and events in a way that best meets their needs using online technology. You’ll discover the story behind their digital transformation (and how these business partners have never even met face-to-face themselves)! Along with how they juggle their individual businesses with their joint business venture and their perspective on the future of events.

Here’s some of what we discussed:

Understanding and managing technical risks:

“When you're in a digital world and you're on this stage there is nowhere to hide (any problems or issues). We’re very aware of this and our success with online events is because we’re very prepared and don’t have to react in that moment,” Mireille shared.

The siloed environment of being an entrepreneur

“Every entrepreneur or solopreneur can probably relate to the fact that it can be a very siloed environment. But our industry is a very creative collaborative one. So, we were both in the position where we craved collaboration and the contribution of different strengths, if you combine all that together, you can become a bit of an unstoppable force,” said Nichol on the show.

On fractional services and outsourcing

While the two run QuickBooks for their financing, they have a bookkeeper who they work with who makes sure their finances are up to date.

“We work with designers, and belong to a bigger organization; an association that represents professional event planners in Canada.” said Nichol. Accessing resources through the association allows Eventfluent to easily scale up.

“It takes a village to have a successful business. And so we're slowly building up our village with our support team.” Mireille added.

Fun, frank advice?

“It’s something I realized in my past business, but even more so now, is don't be afraid to ask for help. Don't be afraid to look for that resource, support system or just mentioning to someone that you’re struggling. You’re doing yourself a disservice if you’re not seeking and asking for help,” Mireille advised.

“It’s also important to be as authentic as you can – and lead through your values”, Nichol added.

Both Mireille and Nichol have learnt how to scale, delegate and work towards the freedom they want. You can too, at my very own event, the 2021 edition of Double to Sell on the 4th and 5th November 2021.

And if you’re at the helm of a thriving business or startup, looking to exit, or simply have something to share with the Self-made Nation, do get in touch. I’d love to hear your story.
