If you’ve been listening to “I’m a Millionaire! So Now What?” you’ll know that I’ve been talking about the Queen’s Gambit, our theme for the Elevated conversations Roundtable on April 29th. You’ll also know it’s all been about strategy and tactics and how this relates to chess.

For those members of the Self-Made Nation who missed out on some of my insights and reflections over April, here’s a roundup:

  1. The building of a business strategy metaphor: A reverse interview with my fractional CMO, Susan Diaz. On this episode we turned the traditional podcast format upside down when Susan interviews me, taking you behind the scenes of Elevated Conversations to discuss April’s roundtable theme, The Queen’s Gambit. We also discuss the need for more entertaining and suitable references and metaphors, the importance of fun homework and link it all back to how business strategy is like chess.

  1. Are you building a strategy, or just dreaming unicorns and technicolour rainbows? On this episode, you’ll find out why strategy without tactics is merely a dream. How this relates to the Cheshire Cat on Alice in Wonderland, and why you might not be getting the results you want.

  1. People, Players and Pawns. As the title suggests, you’ll discover the importance of your players, your team. How “every paw can become a queen” and why you need to utilize each team member’s special gifts while contributing to their advancement and fulfillment. You’ll see how your team is larger than your just paid staff and must be included on your business chessboard.

  1. Self-care strategy for the self-made nation. From loneliness to addiction and mental illness, The Queen’s Gambit touches on tough themes. As high-achieving members of the self-made nation, we too can feel lonely. We need to take care of our mental health. This episode covers how to focus on your “North Star”, whatever this may be for you. To practice wellness and self-care. And to keep grounded with some type of prayer or reflection.

Each episode is short and sweet, yet packed with strategic advice inspired by The Queen’s Gambit.

I’ll leave you to think about this quote from the mini-series and how it can apply to your business strategy:

“Chess isn’t always competitive. Chess can also be beautiful. It was the board I noticed first. It’s an entire world of 64 squares.”
