Health is Wealth Series: The Grouse Grind

The Grouse Grind® is a 2.5-kilometer trail up the face of Grouse Mountain, commonly referred to as “Mother Nature’s Stairmaster". It includes 2,830 stairs which gives you an elevation gain of 800 meters and a well deserved view! Many Vancouverites use this trail as a benchmark for their fitness and a never-ending challenge to better their personal best time.

As avid "Grinders", the following techniques can help lower your Grouse Grind time:

  1. Vectors - straight line to each corner (wandering just means longer journey)
  2. Don’t lose elevation - never step down, always step up or at the same elevation (do you want to make it harder? No way!)
  3. Pace yourself - build your effort slowly so you still have energy for that last steep quarter (consider measuring your heart rate so you understand where your effort is at)

Having a process for anything means two things:

  • You have thought about what is working best
  • You now have a template that can be improved upon if your game is mastery

At Eydt Wealth Partners we have spent the last 24 years refining our process to allow our clients to have enough so they can enjoy their money. We have never been satisfied that we are doing enough to help. Every day we continue our pursuit of mastery. It is fun to get better.

Put a process in place for your next Grouse Grind and watch your time drop as your process improves based on trial and error. Remember Health is Wealth!
